Sitting at $0.3257 as of this writing, XRP has had an eventful year so far and looks to be in a position to continue this trend for the foreseeable future. However, for the first time in several weeks there hasn’t been much Ripple (XRP) movement since my last article.
So this week will be short and sweet.
First up, Ripple co-founder, Chris Larsen and his wife Lyne Lam reportedly made the largest donation in cryptocurrency ever to a university in the United States. The couple announced a donation of $25 million worth of XRP to the San Francisco State University (SFSU) College of Business, with the funds to be redirected to students to help with research and studies related to global entrepreneurial and fintech ecosystems.
In the announcement, SFSU’s President, Leslie E. Wong, said that the donation “will position the College of Business as an evolving, distinctly diverse and industry-relevant epicenter of business innovation and entrepreneurship.”
This isn’t the first time that the company has been associated with a sizable donation to education. Last May, via their University Blockchain Research Initiative, Ripple donated $50 million to 17 universities around the world.
Next, we can chalk up yet another sweet move for XRP. The startup known as Uquid recently announced that XRP can now be used to pay electric bills, insurance premiums, purchase groceries, recharge mobile phone numbers, and more. While these new abilities aren’t available everywhere and some are currently restricted to certain countries, Uquid has posted that they will update more services in the near future.
The only other XRP related news worth reporting at this point is that Coinbase launched a new crypto-enabled Visa card that supports multiple currencies including XRP. This means that Coinbase’s UK customers with the new Visa card can use XRP, BTC, ETH, LTC, XLM, BCH, and EOS to make purchases and even complete cash withdrawals quickly and easily directly from the Coinbase accounts.
That’s all for this week but there are a few whispers in the wind that more XRP related news is on the way, so I won’t be surprised at all if something exciting is announced Sunday or early in the coming week.
