What You Need To Know About The Brave Browser

by Alan Daniel

The Brave browser is a result of like-minded individuals collaborating to come out with a product that will give users the option to maintain privacy, browse the web faster and choose whether or not they want to support their most frequented sites.

Two of these key individuals are Brendan Eich and Brian Bondy.

Brendan Eich is a founder and CEO of Brave, he is also known as the creator of Javascript. Brian Bondy is a founder and CTO of Brave who is known for his work on the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Their purpose is to put the power in the hands of the individual that is utilizing the browser. They want to give users choices when it comes to browsing the internet.

Privacy
Privacy is maintained on the Brave Browser through keeping your data out of servers, not selling your information to third parties and guarding against malware. You are also able to customize ad blocking either for the whole browser or on a specific site.

Since privacy is of utmost importance, automatic upgrades to HTTPS will occur when using this browser. There are settings that are automatically set or are defaulted for security and privacy reasons. These include settings that block plugins, phishing, and malware.

Tor
If you want even more privacy protection you also have the option to use Private Tabs with Tor. This option is only available on the desktop currently.

Private Tabs with Tor essentially allows you to be anonymous from start to finish when browsing the web through the use of the Tor network.

Ok, so what else is there to like about Brave?

Brave Rewards
Brave rewards is a method of supporting content creators. This feature is only available on desktop and works by a notification that pops up on the toolbar. The notification will ask you if you want to watch an ad that is on the page you are browsing. The notification also gives you a description of what the ad is. You can choose to view it or click close if you prefer not to view it.

You earn BAT which stands for Basic Attention Token for each ad watched.

The BAT owned is managed by Uphold.

You can make an Uphold account to link the two together and decide how you want to use your BAT.

You can choose to contribute BAT earned to content creators. This is also customizable in the sense that you can make a payment of 20 BAT to 100 BAT per month or you can choose not to contribute. If you choose to contribute then the BAT would go to the sites that you use the most.

BAT For Publishers
Publishers and creators that are interested in Brave would need to sign up with Brave to get verified before being able to collect earnings. This verification process is necessary to see if a publisher owns its domain page. If a publisher is not verified and has earnings then after 90 days the earnings go back to the wallet.

Brave deducts 5% of publisher contributions which are then used to cover infrastructure costs and to keep the Brave Browser free to download.

Check out the browser and see if you like it.
