Are You Going to CES Cryptocurrency 2020?

by Pragati Shrivastava

CES 2020 is the annual tech show that features the latest and coolest tech gadgets like laptops, mobiles and TV sets. However, this show also features a cryptocurrency segment and projects have been waiting all year round to make some noise of their own. The cryptocurrency segment has been added only recently, in the past, the show featured only companies with massive consumer devices and retail products. That's changed in the last few years as the show expanded beyond consumer electronics.

Here’s a sneak peek into what CES 2020 is planning this year.

CES is where technology comes to share the latest innovation, break stereotypes and forge potential partnerships. It’s an important live event where you can connect with your favorite crypto businesses and products. We’ve put together a list of things to expect at CES 2020. Blockchain Technology is being incorporated in business solutions to ensure greater security, from food safety and the supply chain to payment processing and data sharing. Several exhibitors are coming to connect with their audience.

The Libra Effect” - the Facebook event

It’s 2019 and everyone, from Walmart to Facebook, wants to be their own bank. Earlier in 2019, Facebook announced its plans to launch a digital currency, Libra; a project to bank the unbanked population of billions across the globe. They explained how they’ll change the future and how the economy will work.

In this segment, industry leaders like Michael Casey of CoinDesk, Dante Disparte of the Libra Association, and others are speaking at the conference. Facebook may be assessed critically and required to explain how it plans to work on security for the Libra project. Facebook is working with partners, including Lyft and Spotify, to launch project Libra and it is part of a 21-member association that's overseeing the cryptocurrency. Key partners have bailed out of the Libra association following regulatory scrutiny, which raised questions about Libra's viability.

Fireside Chat: Wall Street Meets Crypto Alley

In the past two years, since the historic bull run, Wall Street has given mainstream attention to cryptocurrency projects that have strong fundamentals and an experienced team. Several big names from the Street have unveiled their blockchain and cryptocurrency plans.

Mariana Danilovic of Infiom, Nitin Gaur of IBM, and Kat Sullivan of Galaxy Digital will be speaking at this event.

The past decade shook our world’s and started a financial and decentralized revolution of sorts, through Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. In the podcast, Untold Stories of the Crypto Revolution, Martine Paris of Fast Company, Vinny Lingham of Civic, Brock Pierce of Bitcoin Foundation, and Charlie Shrem of UntoldStories will pay homage to the purist crypto-thinkers. These panelists are popular for their dynamic passion for the "real dirt" behind the stories you read in the crypto tabloids. All that glitters is not Bitcoin, and this fact cannot be stressed enough.

More often than not, crypto traders have felt like survivors of scams, of crypto winters and what not. More and more such survivors are coming together in communities across the world to share their experiences, what they’ve learned and what they look forward to, in the cryptosphere. CES 2020 is just the right place for this. The event A Survivor's Guide to Investing in Crypto will bring together crypto and tech leaders to speak on this.

Apart from a survivor’s guide, everyone in cryptocurrency has been seeking regulatory clarity. In CES 2020, BlockChain: Overcoming Obstacles Starts with Regulation covers what is stopping governments and institutions from drafting clear regulations on cryptocurrencies. There are several hold ups, like the difference between securities and altcoins, the extent of centralization in stablecoins and the issuance of Central Bank’s digital currencies in China, France and Russia.

Blockchain technology is facing regulatory hold ups and at the same time, there are several technical challenges- like issues of scalability and speed that will be discussed in the segment Blockchain's Technical Hurdles where leaders from MakerDAO, LIDT, Protocol Labs and Grit Daily.

The startup ecosystem has seen the rise of many new cryptocurrency projects based on Blockchain Technology. In CES’s Blockchain Building Better Business, leaders will discuss how blockchain has the ability to streamline how we do business. Blockchain can help businesses build trust and increase profits through transparency in business. While this may not be possible in the current regulatory framework, we may reach these capabilities through change in regulation.

Will you be attending CEC Cryptocurrency 2020? We’d love to hear about your experience.
