It’s happening: Justin Sun is sitting down with Warren Buffett

by Meredith Loughran

Justin Sun and Warren Buffett walk into a bar… Well, that sounds like the beginnings of a Laugh Out Loud joke. How in the world did Justin Sun, a young blockchain whiz, get an opportunity to have a sit down power lunch with American billionaire, philanthropist, business magnate, Warren Buffett?

It’s not a big secret that Warren Buffett has compared Bitcoin to gambling and can be quoted as saying that it has “no unique value at all”, that it “is a delusion”, and “attracts charlatans.” And while he may not be a big fan of cryptocurrency, he does accept the importance of blockchain’s underlying technology. Let’s face it, the man’s a billionaire for a reason.

Justin Sun, Chinese entrepreneur and named Forbes China 30 Under 30 (2015-2017), is the CEO of BitTorrent and founder of the TRON platform placed the record-breaking $4.5 million winning bid to have a private lunch with Buffett. Let’s not forget that the auction with Buffett was to raise funds for the San Francisco-based GLIDE Foundation, which is dedicated to helping the “poor, homeless, and those battling substance abuse.” If you didn’t know it, BitTorrent is also based in San Francisco, so this auction win is really helping a local community.

The auction ran exclusively on eBay and ran from May 26 – 31, but it wasn’t until June 3 that Sun announced he was the winning bidder. Additionally, he can bring seven more lucky people to lunch with Mr. Buffett.

In the interview with Becky Quick on Squakbox, Justin Sun doesn’t think he can change Warren Buffet’s mind about crypto over a three hour lunch, but hopefully everyone goes in with an open mind and their A-game. He plans to bring people who represent the blockchain industry and mentioned Charlie Lee, founder of Litecoin, Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ, founder of Binance, as well as exchange and mining leaders.

For the love of blockchain, do a good job and have fun!
