No Lunch For You. Sun Postpones Meeting With Buffett

by Meredith Loughran

There was great anticipation for the crypto world when Justin Sun, founder of TRON and CEO of BitTorrent made a record-breaking winning auction bid of $4.57 million to have lunch with Warren Buffet back in June, 2019. As part of the auction, the winner could invite up to eight people to dine with the billionaire investment magnate and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Twitter was abuzz with invitations extended to Yoni Assia, eToro; Chris Lee, CFO, Board Secretary and VP of International Business Development of Huobi Global; Helen Hai of Binance Charity Fund, and Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle, a crypto payments firm. Sun stated that more invitations were pending.

Lunch was supposed to take place at Quince in San Francisco on July 25 but in a tweet from TRON Foundation, the lunch was cancelled due to Sun’s health concerns.

Here’s the thing... People don’t generally have an acute case of kidney stones. It’s not like waking up with the flu. So, what’s going on?

Chinese media, Sina Finance News, shared that there were allegations that Sun participated in money laundering, illegal fundraising, porn transaction facilitation, and gambling, all denied. Apparently, Justin Sun got on the Chinese finance regulators’ radar because of his winning auction bid.

In September 2017, China banned ICOs, so any fundraising that was done in China for the TRON Foundation was returned, so this debunks the illegal fundraising allegation. Claims of money laundering are also being denied as the Foundation is located in Singapore and complies with their regulations. Further arguments about illegal activities that include, but may not be limited to gambling and pornography are also being denied, as the Foundation reveals they vehemently opposes unlawful use of the Tron blockchain protocol but points out that they are a decentralized network.

In the meantime, some Chinese sources stated that Sun was under a travel ban where he could not leave the country but Justin Sun is currently in San Francisco and lunch with Buffett has been postponed for another day.

At the time of this report, TRX is down 10.87% and trading at $0.025344 USD, according to CoinMarketCap.
